Los Angeles Chapter

The Los Angeles Chapter was created in July of 1974 by Dr. Duane Young. Joining him as a founding member was Vern Lanegrasse, known as “the Hollywood Chef” for many years. Neill Foster, Lanegrasse’s friend, joined in 1977 and rose through the ranks to become Master Commander in 1980, a post he held for 32 years, the longest-serving Master Commander on record in the national organization.  The Los Angeles Chapter includes chefs, winemakers and artists along with men and women from a full range of business interests. Often, a winemaker offers a presentation. Always, the event chef appears for accolades and questions. Our experiences sharing food and wines together in a variety of venues create strong friendships.

The Knights of the Vine, America’s first and oldest wine brotherhood, is a founding member of the Federation Internationale des Confreries Bachiques (FICB)  and one of 100 Wine Brotherhoods from around the world. This umbrella organization was created in 1964 to promote and defend fine wines. See the list of countries with wine brotherhoods here.

In addition to working with the American wine industry to promote American wines, the Order sponsors unique national and local wine events.  Events include a formal induction ceremony as well as more casual luncheons, dinners, wine tastings and educational seminars. Come explore the traditions and delights of wine with Knights of the Vine, Los Angeles.
